Cranleigh School

Cranleigh School sits on a two hundred acre site on the edge of Cranleigh Village in the Surrey countryside some 10 miles south of Guildford and near the main A3 London-Portsmouth road. Founded in 1865 originally as the Surrey County School for farmers' sons, it has been a mixed school since the early 1970s and has full facilities for both boarders and day pupils. Heathrow and Gatwick airports are within easy access and there are fast direct trains running between Guildford and London Waterloo. Click here for a map showing the main roads between Cranleigh and Guildford and full details of how to reach the school together with maps of Cranleigh Village and of the school grounds.

There are four boys’ boarding houses of which Cranleigh Choral Week uses Cubitt House and North House. There are also two boarding houses for girls of which CCW uses West House. All of them are contemporary in style, comfortable, well-equipped and within a few minutes’ walk of the main building and Music School. Most of the rooms are single study bedrooms although there are a small handful which are for twin-occupancy. Each House has its own Common Room area which CCW members can use for relaxing.

The course’s administrative centre is based in the Merriman Music School, to the east end of the main building and adjacent to the Chapel. Named after Cranleigh’s first Headmaster, the Music School includes a recital room that will be used as one of the rehearsal venues during the week. Cranleigh has a long tradition of music making and this is reflected in the facilities that are available for the students.

The Chapel is a beautiful building which is used for both rehearsals and the mid-week concert. At the other end of the main building, there is the main school hall, the Speech Hall, in which the full evening rehearsals and most of the social events are held. Adjoining that behind the stage area is the Vivian Cox Theatre which may also be used for some rehearsals.

Morning and afternoon coffee & tea breaks make use of the school café called Gatley’s, and all meals are served in the main dining room.

There are excellent sports facilities on the campus including an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a well-equipped gym and a nine-hole golf course, all of which will be available for use by CCW members.
